15 Ways to Save Money at Walt Disney World

Every little kid has dreams of meeting Mickey, Minnie, and all of their friends while taking a magical trip to Walt Disney World. But what is a dream for some children is a nightmare for the parents once they see the price tag.

From park tickets and accommodation to dining and shopping, expenses add up quickly when vacationing at the most magical place on Earth. However, with careful planning and savvy strategies, it’s possible for your family to enjoy the magic of Disney without breaking the bank.

1. Plan Ahead

While a last-minute Disney trip always sounds fun, booking your trip well in advance can often result in significant savings for your entire family. Look for early bird deals on tickets, accommodations, and dining plans, and snoop around to see when Disney might be offering promotions or savings.

2. Visit During Off-Peak Season

Disney World is often really busy during their peak seasons, which include holidays and school breaks, driving up prices for hotels and tickets. Consider visiting during quieter times, like in the middle of the winter or after spring break, to take advantage of lower prices and shorter wait times.

3. Purchase Multi-Day Tickets

Buying multi-day tickets instead of single-day passes can help your family save some money when it comes to your park tickets. If you’re planning on going to more than one park, it just makes sense to buy your park tickets all in one go. Also, look out for Disney’s bundle deals that include park hopper options if your family wants to visit more than one park a day.

4. Stay Off-Site

While staying at a Disney resort has a lot of perks, it might make more sense for your family to stay at an off-site hotel, which can often be more budget-friendly. Many hotels in the surrounding area offer shuttle services to the parks, saving you money on transportation and parking at the parks. Double-check with your hotel prior to your trip about how often their shuttles run and if they work with your family’s plans.

5. Pack Snacks and Water

One tip that not a lot of people know about or take advantage of is that Disney allows guests to bring their own snacks and drinks into the parks. Pack a refillable water bottle to save on buying water throughout the day and save plastic. Grab a few snacks before leaving, which can help you avoid pricey snack stand purchases throughout the day. If you’re staying at a Disney resort, your family can have a grocery store deliver groceries to your hotel room, helping you save even more.

6. Take Advantage of Freebies

Keep an eye out for free items and complimentary experiences offered by Disney. From celebration buttons to character meet-and-greets, there are plenty of magical moments to be found around the parks at no extra cost.

7. Utilize Disney Transportation

While Disney’s Magical Express is now gone, Disney still offers complimentary transportation between their parks, resorts, and Disney Springs. Please note that there is a cost to take the buses from the airport to your Disney resort now. If you’re planning to go to Universal Studios, SeaWorld, or other attractions in the Orlando area, take note that Disney resorts don’t provide transportation to those parks, but other resorts nearby might.

8. Bring Your Own Souvenirs

Rather than purchasing expensive souvenirs at the parks, consider bringing your own Disney-themed merchandise from home. A pro tip is also to check the Disney Store’s website and see if you can get the item you’re looking at for a cheaper price through them.

9. Use Mobile Ordering

Disney’s mobile ordering service via their app allows guests to skip the line and pre-order meals from select quick-service restaurants around the parks. Not only does this save you time, but it might help you avoid impulse purchases while waiting in line.

10. Share Meals

Disney portions can be quite generous, so consider sharing meals at sit-down restaurants or quick-service locations. If you’re on your own, consider getting just a snack or even a kids’ meal, which is often really filling and delicious for a lower price.

11. Take Advantage of Discounts

Disney offers a number of discounts for military personnel, annual pass holders, Florida residents, and more. Be sure to check the eligibility requirements and take advantage of any discounts you or your family qualify for.

12. Skip Park Hopper Tickets

While park hopper tickets offer flexibility, they also come with a higher price tag. If your family isn’t planning on going to more than one park each day, it might not be worth the splurg to get the Hopper Tickets.

13. Use Disney Gift Cards

Purchase discounted Disney gift cards from retailers like Target or Costco to save money on dining and merchandise purchases throughout your trip. Plus, you can stockpile these gift cards like a little savings account just for your Walt Disney World trip.

14. Opt for Free Activities

One of the best parts of Disney is that a lot of the best parts of the park are free. From parades, fireworks shows, and street performances, there’s so much to see and take in while visiting Walt Disney World.

15. Look for Package Deals

Keep an eye out for package deals that combine tickets, accommodations, and dining plans. These bundles can often result in significant savings for your entire family compared to booking each component separately.
